"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union... " Let me say that again, in case you missed it. "In order to form a more perfect union." These words should weigh heavy in the minds of the people here in America. If you do not know where they come from, I suggest you go back and re-learn American history. So, what's happened to our more perfect union? It doesn't exist in this day and age. Washington is broken, and not by the Democrats or the Republicans, or the Independants, but by those who refuse to work together to gain common ground for the good of the people. Those who would stagnate progress for their own gain, selfishness, or agenda.
Those whom we've trusted to be our voice in congress, to stand up for us for "the people", have turned their back on us, ignored us, and have the attitude that "The American people are dumb, they don't know what they want, or what's best for them, so I'm going to tell them what is best for them." Who do these people think they are? What are we to them?
Where is the accountability in Congress for their actions? A better question might be, why are we not holding these congressional members accountable? It's a two fold system, the politicians need to be accountable for their actions, and we need to force them to be accountable. We, the people truly have the power here, not them. If your representative isn't doing the job you think he or she should be doing, then vote them out. If none of the candidates suit you, you can always write in a candidate (in most cases). In essence as they have failed us, we have failed ourselves.
What is it going to take to get through to our representatives that we are tired of being misled, deceived, shade handed, and made to feel like we are not smart enough to know what we want. Even the politicians that I talk to say the same thing over and over again, and I hear it loud and clear when I am out and about. There is one word. Revolution. Not in the sense of a war within our country (I really hope not), but a political revolution, where everything is overhauled. Top down and bottom up. Every seat in government is over turned, ever government program is examined, re-examined with fresh eyes, not affiliated with the government. Where every politician is held accountable for their actions, and limited to the terms they can serve. If our executive branch has an imposed limit of 10 years maximum (2 full elected terms and 2 years under dire circumstances), why not impose the same limits of our representatives? My true thoughts are congress should not be a way of life, you get in, make a difference, help the people, make it better, then let the next guy in.
The original idea of congress was that people were to be representing the common man, that had the voice of a common man, that were the common man. "A government of the people, by the people, and for the people." When is the last time a representative was truly this?
